Dartmouth Devon

Things to do in Dartmouth

Watersports and the coastal life are key to Dartmouth and the surrounding area. The nearest sandy beach is just along the coast at Blackpool Sands, and then of course there is the geographically famous Slapton Line a few miles on from there.

There are many opportunities for sailing lessons, as well as regular fishing trips and other boat trips around the harbour, out to the castle or up to Totnes, a funky town well worthy of a visit.

The steam railway from Kingswear offers a relaxing mode of travel to Paignton, and for other historic options, visits to the National Trusts properites of Greenway or Coleton Fishacre are a great choice.

Larger attractions include a truly excellent zoo at Paignton, as well as the waterpark at Quaywest and the leisure park (think small theme park) of Woodlands.

Devon Art

With a wonderful mix of powerful seascapes, rolling countryside and picturesque villages, it's little surprise this area of Devon is a magne to artists! There are many galleries in Dartmouth, but we'd like to recommend a visit to the Mayne Gallery, not far away in the market town, Kingsbridge. Do check out the Devon art section for some of the best from paintings, photos and other artworks from local area.
